Ortam has a professional background in marine science and broadcast journalism. She has accompanied scientists and conservationists on research expeditions throughout the Bahamas. She has worked as an aquarist-temp for an AZA (Association of Zoos & Aquariums) accredited company. Ortam has also interned as a multimedia journalist at KMOT, an NBC-affiliated television station. In 2017, Ortam received her bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and is currently working on her masters in mass communication.
Her favorite marine animal is the spotted eagle ray.
